Tension creeping into your day? Feeling overwhelmed on a regular basis? These self-unwinding strategies provide relief, and you can start doing them right now.

At Seasons In Our Life, we encourage you to practice these unwinding techniques and use them along with our therapeutic services to improve your quality of life.

Practice These Self-Unwinding Methods as Soon as Now

Tight shoulders and neck pain, an unfocused mind, and even headaches are signs that you need to release tension. These are strategies you can put in place right now to start feeling the difference.

Deep, Focused Breathing

Deep, focused breathing activates your parasympathetic nervous system, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, and the presence of stress hormones in your blood. Sit or lie down comfortably. Take deep breaths in that move your abdomen and chest forward. Hold for a few seconds, and release through your mouth. As you breathe in, focus on those areas where you feel tension, and visualize blowing that tension away as you exhale.

Engage Your Senses

Step outside into the sun to feel the warmth on your skin. Listen to calming music that brings your stress level down. Engage in some type of physical activity with your hands, such as coloring or knitting. Then, breathe deeply through the activity. This distracts your brain.

Be Mindfully Still

Instead of engaging, be still. The focus of stillness is the process of allowing your body and mind to rest. Mindful stillness means resting. Notice your sensations as you sit or stand still. Allow your mind to ease the tension you feel as you remain still. Doing this allows your body to integrate the changes you desire.
